During a one-year pilot, 85 households in four neighbouring municipalities received green electricity generated by Brussels Airport’s solar panels.
With solar panels on its large rooftops and open spaces, Brussels Airport generates significant amounts of solar energy. Thanks to a partnership with energy platform Bolt, participating households could purchase locally generated renewable electricity at a reduced price. Rather than keeping all the benefits of renewable energy within the airport, the pilot created a direct link between local production and local demand, bringing the energy transition closer to the surrounding community.
