Stargate organises Hydrogen Airport Conference

28.11.2023

Infrastructural and operational challenges and opportunities for EU airports

November 28th 2023, Stargate organised the ‘Hydrogen Airports Conference’ together with ACI Europe, To70 and Brussels Airport Company. The event brought together industry leaders and experts to share knowledge and discuss the role of airports as the aviation sector embraces hydrogen as a potential clean energy alternative to conventional fuels.

In preparation of the large-scale implementation of hydrogen both for ground vehicles and aircraft, it is crucial that airports are aware of the challenges as well as the opportunities hydrogen as an energy carrier provides to the airport infrastructure and operations.

The Hydrogen Conference started with a morning session on the current landscape and future potential of hydrogen in the aviation industry, with contributions from AZEA, ATI FlyZero and our EU Green Deal sister projects TULIPS and OLGA.

In the afternoon, two panel discussions explored the impact of hydrogen on ground operations and aircraft. The in-depth sessions covered both the operational and infrastructural impact as well as costs, safety and sustainability aspects. We would like to thank our panelists Plug Power, Zepp Solutions, Groupe Europe Handling, Universal Hydrogen, Airbus, Swedavia, Rotterdam The Hague Airport, Group ADP and Easyjet for sharing their valuable insights and best practices, thus shaping the future of hydrogen in aviation.
