Digital Twin
Terminal Interventions
Would better-insulated windows save more energy than lowering the thermostat? Which renovation would have the biggest impact? The Digital Twin lets airports test ideas in a virtual world.
Developed by IES, the Digital Twin creates a digital copy of the airports in Brussels, Athens, Toulouse and Budapest. It combines information about buildings and energy use into one virtual airport.
Instead of relying on assumptions, airport teams can test different scenarios. What happens if a building is renovated? Which interventions save the most energy? What happens as the number of electric vehicles increases?
By showing how the airport behaves as a whole, the Digital Twin helps distinguish promising ideas from costly mistakes and identify which actions can have the biggest impact.
