UCO Collection (Used-cooking-oil)

Decarbonisation

Next time you have fries, you may very well be contributing to tomorrow’s aviation fuel. SAF can start with something very familiar: used cooking oil (UCO). As demand for SAF grows, securing sufficient feedstocks is key.

That is why Quatra, a company that collects and recycles used cooking oil, improved its network of collection points. Once collected, the oil enters a circular value chain. It is processed into a sustainable fuel component and blended with conventional jet fuel to produce SAF. By giving an existing waste stream a second life, it can significantly reduce lifecycle CO₂ emissions compared with fossil kerosene.

Quatra also made household UCO collection more efficient by optimising its network of collection boxes. Some smaller boxes were replaced by larger ones, while others were moved to better locations. The result? Each collection stop yielded 43% more UCO on average.
