SAF purchase pilot

Companies want to reduce the footprint of their business travel. Stargate tested how a single SAF purchase could help companies do so together while ensuring that the related carbon credits could be shared between them, airlines and airports. 

When Stargate partners travelled to Toulouse for the programme’s General Assembly, they tested a different way of reducing the climate impact of their flight.   

They purchased an amount of SAF equivalent  to the conventional jet fuel used for the flight, avoiding 10 tonnes of CO₂. 

The project, coordinated by Brussels Airport and aviation consultancy To70, then tackled a new question: if several organisations contribute to the same SAF purchase, how should the environmental benefits, and related Scope 3 credits be shared?  The experience showed that joint SAF purchases are possible, but need clear agreements, trusted documentation and transparent accounting.
