Electric vehicles are becoming part of everyday airport mobility. The next challenge is not only providing charging points, but using them smartly.
If every vehicle starts charging at full power at the same time, the electricity grid quickly become overburdened. SMATCH technology helps avoid that by adjusting when and how fast vehicles charge. Instead of letting every vehicle draw as much electricity as possible, charging is spread more intelligently across the network. This helps make better use of available electricity and reduces pressure on the grid at busy moments.
Tests by ENGIE Laborelec, ENGIE’s research centre, showed that this dynamic approach could reduce demand by 50% during short response intervals. In short: the car still charges, but the system behind it works smarter.
