Digital Green Lane
Local environmental quality
Imagine dropping off or collecting a parcel at a pick-up point. If everyone arrived at once without warning, queues would quickly form. But when you have the right information upfront, you can plan ahead and avoid queues.
Implemented by Air Cargo Belgium, representing the air cargo community at Brussels Airport, and its partners, the Digital Green Lane allows airfreight stakeholders to share pick-up/drop-off and shipment information in time to ensure smoother cargo handovers. This gives cargo handlers time to plan and prepare deliveries and pick-ups in advance.
With the right information available before arrival, collection and delivery times can be spread out, gates reserved and handling personnel allocated. Fewer paper documents are needed and waiting times are reduced. This keeps traffic moving more smoothly through the cargo zone, reducing congestion, emissions and disruptions for nearby communities.
The Digital Green Lane principle was also tested and introduced at Athens International Airport, showing how it can work in different airport environments.
