Breaking Down Silos: “Seas to Skies” Conference Fuels Collaboration for Greener Transport

03.12.2024

On 3-4 December, the Seas to Skies event brought together industry leaders, innovators, and policymakers, underscoring the vital need for collaboration and joined-up thinking to achieve sustainable maritime and air transport. Crucially, the event served as a platform to foster synergy between various EU Green Deal projects, including aviation projects – TULIPS, OLGA, Stargate – and maritime projects – MAGPIE and PIONEERS.

Organised by the PIONEERS and STARGATE projects, in collaboration with OLGA, TULIPS, MAGPIE, and CINEA, the conference served as a critical platform for showcasing breakthrough solutions for reducing emissions and driving sustainability in Europe’s transport hubs.

A key takeaway from this two-day event over Brussels and Antwerp was the recognition that building a genuinely green transport system demands breaking down silos and encouraging cross-project collaboration. While each initiative concentrates on specific aspects of sustainable transport, their combined impact can be significantly amplified through shared knowledge, aligned strategies, and joint working. The “Seas to Skies” conference provided precisely this opportunity for synergy.

The five projects showcased at the conference, with the support of the EU, are paving the way for a truly integrated and sustainable transport system, accelerating progress towards the goals of the EU Green Deal. The event acted as a catalyst for this collaboration, setting the stage for future joint efforts and a greener future for European transport.
