Modal shift in action: Bike Test and Carpool Platform

Introducing The Bike Test at Brussels Airport 

Brussels Airport has been focusing on sustainable travel to the airport for quite some time. In recent years, the bicycle has gained popularity for commuting, and that offers opportunities for the employees of Brussels Airport and the many companies located around it. We recently presented The Bike Test, an initiative launched by Steven Fagard, our dedicated Stargate Bike Manager. This campaign is all about boosting the number of bike commuters within our airport community and making a positive impact on our environment.

Embracing Sustainable Commuting 

From September 11 to September 29, the first phase of this test campaign was launched exclusively for employees of the Brussels airport cargo zone. Over this three-week period, employees had the opportunity test four distinct types of bicycles, ranging from e-bikes and e-cargo bikes to speed pedelecs.

The perfect way to experience the convenience and joy of cycling to work while reducing their carbon footprint. 

Bike Counters & Survey 

Thanks to the construction of new cycling infrastructure and connections to bicycle highways in recent years, the airport is now more easily accessible by bicycle. Within the framework of Stargate, the Province of Flemish Brabant has installed three bicycle counters at the airport to get a better overview of the number of cyclists. 

Furthermore, a Bike Survey is also launched to receive feedback from the community regarding current bicycle paths and facilities, and possible bottlenecks. The survey intends to collect feedback and implement solutions to improve the infrastructure and stimulate an increase in bike commuting.
